A social enterprise focusing on recycling bikes

MerseyCycle is a unique social enterprise dedicated to recycling bikes sourced from various locations and generous donations. Located in Court Hey Park,  on the Huyton and Liverpool border, MerseyCycle transforms unwanted bicycles into fully functional, environmentally-friendly rides. With a mission to promote sustainable living and support the community, MerseyCycle offers a platform for individuals to contribute to a greener future. Visit us during our opening hours on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings and be part of the revolution towards a cleaner planet. We have worked with many like minded agencies and were featured in a small video section with Zero Waste LCR here :   https://www.zerowastelcr.com/lcr-reuse-repair-heroes/

Already have your own bike? Then maybe you would like to have it serviced or repaired. Have a look at our service packages here.

Where are we and how to get to us?

MerseyCycle is the home of bicycle recycling in Merseyside. We are based in Huyton, Knowsley but are right on the Liverpool border. Our postcode is L16 3NA.

There are various ways of getting to us.

We are based in Court Hey Park, the previous home of the Gladstone Family.

By car the park entrance is adjacent to the M62 between the Rocket and Knotty Ash Junction. Big brown information signs direct you to Court Hey Park. The entrance is on the A5080 Roby Road.

The nearest train stations are Broadgreen and Roby. Both are accessed on the City Line from Lime Street Railway Station. We recently sold a bike to someone who had got the train to us from Sheffield.

The 61 and 3A bus goes along Roby Road and then by foot from Roby Road into the park. 79 bus goes along Childwall Valley Road at the rear of the park and then on foot the park can be accessed by the entrance by Pascal Baylon School.

National Cycle Network route 62 is very close to the park too. Locally this stretch is called the Ralla of the Loop Line. NCN62 goes from Southport to Hull. Leaving the route at Lanfranc Way and heading to Castletown Close you can then access Baldwin Avenue, Chelwood Avenue and then the park is easiest accessed from Thornton Road.

If you are using what three words then cheer buns large will bring you to our door whilst deeper force moth will take you to the car park.

When are we open?

We  are at  the workshop every Wednesday and  Thursday from 10 until 1 and then 2 until 4 and Saturday 10-1.  On occasions other times can be arranged by appointment.   If there is a change to our opening times we post them here and on our Facebook page.

We reward our volunteers with days out too, so if we are closed because of this then we put that notification here.

In the summer we might increase our hours as demand increases and in the winter we might reduce our hours when demand decreases.

Please note that :-

At the moment there are no holidays booked for June, July and August. If that position changes we will post that information here.

How can you pay?

At present we take payment by cash or bank transfers. This helps us keep costs down and monitor income and outgoings. If making a payment on the day of your purchase we will provide you with our details (by text link if that helps) and you can make the payment. Once we have checked our bank and seen that the payment has cleared (10/15 mins) we shall let you know and you can walk away with your bike.

What people say.

We do not chase reviews but are always grateful when people contact us to say thanks. Here are some of the comments we have received in the past.

W. Batchelor May 2025.  Hi Barry. I’ll aim to pick up the blue bike on Thursday afternoon. By the way, I’ve just got back from my big ride to Amsterdam on the bike you serviced. It didn’t skip a beat the whole way - thanks!

M. Allerton September 2025. Your favourite Genesis sends greetings from bonny Scotland. It's enjoying the rides and running like a well-oiled new bike. Cheers!

D. Kelly August 2025. Thank you for fixing our bikes. It's great that I can now change gears! Tom is delighted with his Maron and says it is way better now than when we bought it second hand. He also likes the colour tint on the gears and brakes. So glad that we found you!

Sally. November 2025. Hi Barry, I am loving my "new bike". I have been using all the gears, because I can. The brakes are amazingly effective and cycling is a lot easier. I will be in to say thank you soon with some nice biscuits. You are all doing such a good job. Thanks.

Donations.

We are always very grateful for the donations that we receive We do try our best to recycle every bike that is donated to us. Sometimes that is not possible for example because the frame is broken or it is just too rusty. We also have limited space and can not always fit every bike in. Always check with us first if you intend to bring a bike to us just in case.  Because we are a social enterprise all the profits we receive from the sale of a bike or parts goes back into the project to fund the recycling of the next bike.

Sizing.

Sizing is such a subjective subject! No two bikes are the same. One 15 inch frame might be a road bike with tight geometry and another might be a touring bike with long relaxed geometry and smaller diameter wheels. Likewise people can be so different. One tall person might have very long legs and another a very long back.
Because of this we always say come and try the bike. Sit on and go for a ride. Until then you won’t know if you like it, if it fits.
